Mediterranean lifestyle

The tradition of wine in Kefalonia dates back to ancient times and continues to this day. On a tour around the island, visitors will encounter many wineries in Kefalonia, especially in the central and southern part. One of the largest wineries in Kefalonia is the Robola Cooperative, which is open to visitors and has a small museum in the courtyard. Robola is the most famous wine variety in Kefalonia and has won numerous awards at wine tastings worldwide.

The villages of Kefalonia radiate charm in abundance! Apart from the capital of the island, Argostoli, you should not miss to visit the tiny villages of Fiskardo and Assos during your Kefalonia vacation. Let yourself be seduced by the enchanting landscape, stroll along the small harbours and then sit down in a taverna to taste the delicious local delicacies!

There are many places to eat and drink in Kefalonia, the size of the island makes it difficult for mass tourism to gain a foothold. Most restaurants in Kefalonia are located in seaside resorts such as Skala, Lassi, Lourdas, Fiscardo, Sami, Agia Efimia and others. Many nice restaurants can also be found in the port cities of Argostoli and Lixouri. Here visitors can taste local dishes, including the famous Kefalonian meat pie.

Although Kefalonia is not an island famous for its lively nightlife, there are many nice places to have a drink in the evening. The most picturesque places to have a drink are in the coastal village of Fiscardo, on the other side of the port, where there are nice bars with lounge music. Night clubs can also be found in the central square of Argostoli, in Lassi and Skala.

Unique flora and fauna

Greece's flora and fauna is certainly the richest in all of Europe: such a great variety of plants and animals is sought in vain elsewhere. Especially in the warmer months, the island of Kefalonia shines in a variety of colors. Compared to the flora, the variety of the fauna is rather restrained.

The probably most important tree on the Greek island Kefalonia is the so-called olive tree: The oldest cultivated plant of Europe gains a yield of approximately 20 kg of olives per year and plant. Furthermore, hikers between the Macchia and Phrygana can often discover several herb gardens: whether mint, rosemary, camomile or thyme - on Kefalonia you can find everything the Mediterranean heart desires. The scent of various flowers, such as lilies or violets, additionally sweeten a trip to Kefalonia in spring.

Apart from the innumerable sheep and goats, one mainly meets other animals, such as donkeys, dogs and cats or chickens. Among the birds are owls, partridges, buzzards, falcons, various species of songbirds and quails. During migrations you can often expect encounters with, among others, harmless geckos, lizards or small snakes.

Ionian island with glamour

Kelafonia is famous worldwide for its picturesque beaches (like Myrtos, Antisamos, Lourdas, Skala), dramatic landscapes and delicious food. Indigo bays, charming villages (Fiscardo, Argostoli, Sami, Assos), white blinding sand, exciting activities, mysterious caves and a lively atmosphere create an exotic vacation paradise in the middle of the Ionian Sea.

The main reason why people keep coming back to Kefalonia is undoubtedly the beautiful beaches. Sure, many beaches look good in pictures, but Kefalonia's most photographed beaches look even better in reality! From Myrtos, an idyllic sandy beach with towering cliffs, to Petani, Xi, Skala and Makris Gialos, every beach in Kefalonia will take your breath away!

The mysterious sea cave of Melissani is of course worth a visit. Get into one of the small boats that offer tours through the cave and immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of this natural wonder. Imagine turquoise water, stalactites and trees washed away by the light that enters the cave from a hole above... It is an experience that is not of this world!

Visit Kefalonia and book one of the romantic country houses, traditional holiday homes or exclusive luxury villas with private swimming pool.
