Skiathos Town - Lively Nightlife
The southern side of the island generally offers more diversion and tourist stimulation than the north, which is almost completely uninhabited. The center of the island, however, is the eponymous town of Skiathos and the picturesque old harbor located there. In this harbor, sailing boats and yachts anchor throughout the summer, swaying leisurely in the water. A walk along the promenade is recommended, with the breathtaking view and the refreshing salty sea air inviting you to stroll. The beautiful peninsula of Bourtzi separates the old from the new harbor, from which ferries depart regularly to the neighboring islands of Alonissos and Skopelos or to the mainland of Thessaloniki. The short distances to the neighboring islands make it very easy for you to leave Skiathos at short notice and visit these places.
Skiathos town is also very well known for its lively nightlife and therefore very popular. Events like open air cinemas, open air theater events or festivals on the beach invite young and old to stay. The Papadiamanti Street, where countless cafes, bars and taverns are located, is the most famous meeting place on the island of Skiathos to start into never-ending summer nights. The winding alleys and narrow streets, in combination with the bright white houses, decorated with blue doors and shutters, further enhance the vacation feeling in Skiathos Town.
Fans of the famous Mama Mia movies will also enjoy themselves here, as some of the scenes were filmed on the island. Tours to follow the footsteps of the filming locations are also offered.
Evergreen island
The evergreen vegetation of the island is paradisiacal and enchants its visitors. Skiathos consists of a mountain range over 400 meters high, which is lushly forested. On its slopes, however, wine and olives are also cultivated and harvested - so don't forget to taste the local products. Thanks to the shady dense pine forests, the area is ideal for long hikes, as recreation-seekers can move here protected from the blazing sun. The contrast is breathtaking when you are lying on the beach with the turquoise shimmering sea on one side and the high green hills on the other.
An incomparable flora and fauna creates the wetland of Strofilia lagoon near Koukounaries in the southwestern part of Skiathos, which is chosen by migratory birds to rest during their journey. The lagoon is connected to the sea by a natural channel and is surrounded by many pine trees.
A trip to the north of the island is also recommended, on the one hand to admire the wide views from the hills of the area, and on the other hand to watch paragliders as they float down from a lofty height. Last but not least, there is a wide range of diving schools on Skiathos, allowing you to explore the diverse and no less beautiful underwater world, which is home to over 300 species of fish.
Impressive sandy beaches
There are over 60 different sandy beaches on the island of Skiathos, each one of them dreamlike in its own special way. Small bays with golden sandy beaches and crystal clear water invite you to sunbathe and swim. The beaches in the north, which are more difficult to reach by land, are best explored with a boat rented at the harbor, where you can enjoy a quiet day in often secluded surroundings.
On the south coast, on the other hand, the island offers a variety of sandy beaches surrounded by accommodation, cafes, restaurants and bars. The perfect beach vacation is rounded off by the wide range of water sports on offer there.
The most spectacular beach of the island and certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece - Lalaria beach. The Lalaria bay impresses its visitors with steep, bright cliffs, where numerous boats as well as small yachts anchor. The white pebbles form an enchanting contrast to the turquoise blue of the water. In addition, there are countless other dream beaches, such as Koukounaries, Ampelakia, Vromolimnos, Troulos, Aselinos ... which are only a stone's throw away from each other.
