Panoramic views of emerald green sea

Around the island of Rhodes, the Ionian Sea, the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet. The Prasonisi peninsula is connected to Rhodes by a sandy isthmus (the narrowest point of a land bridge), where one side is washed by the Aegean Sea and the other by the Mediterranean Sea. On the one hand, the view on it is very worth seeing and on the other hand, there is a beautiful beach on this sandbank that juts out into the sea in both directions. A fantastic panoramic view is offered by the hill Monte Smith, on which a visit to the Grand Master's Palace is also very convenient. Walk along the Knights' Road there and visit the Knights' Castle! Let yourself be taken back many 100 years and dive deep into the past of Rhodes. To have a breathtaking view of the castle and the sea, it is worth taking a walk on Monte Smith by moonlight.

Sun island with flair

The most beautiful beaches, but certainly also the quieter climates are on the east side of the island of Rhodes. This is also where the bay called Anthony Quinn Bay is located, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the blue shimmering sea. A little further south is Tsambika beach, which is enchanting with its light sand and crystal clear water. If you are looking for activities such as surfing or water sports, the Golden Beach at Faliraki is a good choice. It offers a wide range of water sports, but this has led to the development of larger hotel complexes in the surrounding area. The western part of the island generally has more winds and therefore its beaches are generally ideal for active holidaymakers such as surfers and kite surfers. Walk through the Butterfly Valley or to the Seven Springs, enjoy the Kalithea Spa or visit the Tsambika Monastery and Monolithos Castle. There is a lot of variety on the sunny island of Rhodes and therefore there is something for every visitor.

Ancient sites

The Colossus of Rhodes is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The statue, of which unfortunately only the two columns are still visible today, was erected in honour of the sun god Helios and - according to tradition - stood with one leg on each side of the port of Rhodes town. Unfortunately, the statue, which was destroyed by an earthquake very soon, was not rebuilt for fear of another collapse due to earth tremors. The port of Lindos with its acropolis is also a very worth seeing site, which you should not miss to visit.

When you look at the history of Rhodes you can see that the island was very much sought after due to its favourable location and was therefore occupied by various powers. The era of the Knights of St. John, however, was probably the most formative and influential, as many strong fortresses were built during this period to protect themselves from enemy attacks. By the way, they are still very well preserved today! You should definitely visit the attractive capital and historic old town of Rhodes, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
